THE TEAM
We are a very small team of people who strive always to do amazing work every single day. We’re incredibly proud of our work, creativity and drive. Browse the team profiles to discover the passion behind our company.
James Watson
Director
While James is an experienced shipwright, not many know that as a younger man he pursued a cycling career and represented Australia overseas. He spent many years mentoring and coaching young cyclists, then went on to the Tas Institute of Sport to do the same thing.
James began his building career as a cabinet maker in Melbourne, but a passion for boat building, restoration and repair began at Woodbridge, in Ray Kemp's boatyard. There he was part of the team building the replica Lady Nelson. He went on to gain experience as an aluminium welder at Incat as part of a team building the wave piercers on their now famous catamarans, before eventually starting this business, RCM Shipwrights (formerly Red Car Marine).

James, more than ever, continues to love the work he does and the challenges it brings.

Lisa Watson
Bookkeeper / Office Administrator
James' wife, Lisa, has a background in banking, local government, law, manufacturing, hospitality and retail. She and James have lived in Hobart, the North West Coast, the Whitsundays, and Launceston. Moving into semi-retirement Lisa took on the administrative side of the business to enable James to concentrate on what he loves best - and that is not bookwork. However, Lisa is the opposite luckily.

Paul Haddon
Trades Assistant
As our trades assistant, Paul is an essential part of the team. He joined us after moving from the North West Coast where he worked as a contractor making hay and silage, planting potatoes, and harvesting crops, among other things. He also, in a previous life, was a chef working in the Circular Head area. He has a wide knowledge of tools, machinery, and business management and certainly helps keep the wheels of our small business turning.
